Student Learning - Google AR

Student Learning Goal

Google Augmented Reality (AR)

On March 26, 2018, 20 science classes of grade 6-8 students participated in the Google Augmented Reality Pioneer Expeditions Pilot Program.

This opportunity complimented the science curriculum; teachers selected AR models to view that matched up with science standards such as viewing mobile plate tectonic models to help students visualize and understand the movement of plates.

Hour of Code

During the month of December, facilitated and collaborated with teachers and ITS staff to enable all students grade 6-8 to experience the engaging and motivating programming activities from Hour of Code. Worked in multiple classrooms to lead and support all students coding, and provided options for tiered instruction to accommodate different student abilities.

ELL Department Read&Write Training

In March, I gave a presentation to the English Language Learners PreK-12 teachers at their department meeting about using Google Read&Write for teaching all learners. During the meeting, I did a live demo of using Read&Write and then led a discussion for teachers to brainstorm how tools could be used in their classroom. Robyn, the Director of English Learner Education, shared this knowledge with cohorts that she teaches, including families and parents as well as participants in her Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) class.

Twitter

Standard 3: Family and Community Engagement

Increasing Twitter Accessibility

Worked with grade 7 World Geography teacher to set up a Twitter account on behalf of her grade level team (Endeavor) in order to support every family to participate in learning and supporting the classroom community. With 3 options given for receiving tweets, this new measure enables regular updates on student learning. Written tweets accessible at any time allow for translation and asynchronous parental engagement.

Gr 8 Mandarin Trip to Taiwan Website

In collaboration with Assistant Principal and Mandarin teacher, created website to share daily photos from field trip to Taiwan. Site was built prior to trip and set up to be autonomous to accommodate for minimal editing during the trip. Students submitted photos through Google Classroom, which fed live into the site so that parents and students in the US could follow along with the trip as it happened. Chaperones added blog entries about daily activities when possible.

Photo Permissions for Digital Pen Pals

In grade 7 Spanish classes, teachers arranged a digital pen pal activity with a middle school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Student activities included writing letters and creating video and audio messages to share with their peers in South America. In order to adhere to school code of ethics, I collaborated with teachers and the Assistant Principal to learn and apply proper measures to protect student confidentiality in the context of this project.
